A New Chapter for Abdallah | Corruption Watch Donation
On June 23, 2009, when Abdallah Mohamed was on 15 years old, he was walking home one evening when he was accosted by a group of people who accused him of stealing Ghc10.
Although he insisted he was innocent, he was handed to the police, taken to court, tried without being able to contact any friend or family and was denied legal representation in court.
The court found him guilty of stealing Ghc10 and sentenced him to 25 years in prison. Although he was a minor and a first time offender, he was sentenced to an adult prison, Kumasi Central Prison.
10 years into his sentence, Corruption Watch became aware of his case and we investigated and published his case on the Corruption Watch show. A year after his story made headlines, Abdallah gained his freedom after having spent 11 years, 2 months, of his 25-year sentence.
Upon his release in September 2020, he appeared on the Corruption Watch show on Adom FM. Listeners of the show were so touched by his story that they offered to help reintegrate Abdallah into the society in order to also prevent him from re-offending and going back to prison. He was offered accommodation and an internship at Executive Unique barbering shop in Kasoa.
