Microphone Shootout - MXL 990, Rode NTG2, SoundArt STM-5000S Tube, SM Pro Audio MC01.
Update: I've since learned that the "Jade tube condenser"/SoundArt STM5000 is actually an Alctron GT-2B (Nady TCM 1050, T.bone SCT2000) which uses the same circuit as the famous Apex 460. This particular mic has a soldered tube but most of the other components are the same.
This video is just a quick voiceover shootout comparing the SoundArt STM-5000S (Jade) Tube, SM Pro Audio MC01, Rode NTG2, and MXL 990.
Sorry for the poor video quality, it was shot on a Go Pro Hero HD and the booth is always pretty dark so I lit up with an LED video light, which didn't flatter me too much!
Anyway, you're not here for the spectacular visuals, just the audio!
Just a side note, I boosted them all and compressed them slightly. In hindsight I should've run the levels higher but no matter, I think the audio is good enough to allow you to tell the difference.
