Mariah's cover version was released as the third single from her "Music Box" album on January 23, 1994 through Columbia Records. Additionally, the song and produced by Mariah & Walter Afanasieff.
Mariah's version of "Without You" is based on the Nilsson version instead of the Badfinger version. The single was released over a week after Nilsson died of a heart attack on January 15, 1994. The single was promoted as a double A-side with the song, "Never Forget You."
