Only when selecting tracks with the mouse, does "backspace" delete tracks and it doesn't work, when selecting with the keyboard or a controller.
Easy fix, without changing the "backspace" function.
A walkthrough of the fix and a suggestion for multiplying memory of hotkeys with modifiers.
