'Olie' ('Oil') (Scene 14) from Kaapdiegoeiekoop by Silbersee, Gouden Haas & NKK NXT
This is the first of the two scenes from Kaapdiegoeiekoop that we decided to still perform at the online edition of Oerol this year. In this scene, our total dependence, yes, maybe even addiction, to oil is explored.
For this production, libretto writer Jibbe Willems created a new language, 'Neder-Koloniaals,' a mix of languages spoken in former Dutch colonies including Papiaments, Sranantongo, Afrikaans and Indonesian. It is through this language that you'll explore oil's corrupting grip on us. We subtitled the video in Dutch, but because of the combination of several languages even if you don't speak Dutch you might be able to understand it. We are inviting you to watch it a couple times to get to know the language and understand more clearly the message! Enjoy.
