Renegade on Dance Fever
The members of Renegade were born and raised in East Los Angeles, but relocated to Whittier prior to forming the band. After initially being denied local bookings, as a result of their Latin American heritage, a local club owner named Bill Gazarri of Gazarri's On The Strip, booked the band on a regular basis. The band was soon doing standing room only business and rapidly became sought after throughout California. Their first album, Rock N' Roll Crazy was released to critical acclaim, landing them on the front cover of many teen magazines given their youthful appearance and teen appeal at the time. Although the band performed on a number of local television programs, Dance Fever was their first national program. The show aired on a Saturday night, and the following week the U.S. Post Office began delivering bags of fan mail addressed only to "Renegade, Whittier, California."
