If I was the dictator of a technocratic society, I wouldn't use traditional means of force to rule society. Instead, I would utilize technology to engineer people into thinking that they were making free and informed choices. I illustrate this hypothetical to highlight the importance of data privacy. It's more than simply not wanting someone to read your messages to your friends and family. Having control over your information is literally key to your power as an individual.
