Have Metal Shows Become Too Expensive?
In this video, I discuss the recent controversy surrounding the popular French Metal band Gojira and the pricing of their merch.
*A few more things I forgot to mention in the video that I think is important to take into consideration regarding this subject.
In regards to my most recent concerts, I did not buy merch due to the high prices. With that said, how much are bands potentially losing out on sales due to these high prices? Sure you don't have to sell as much to reach a certain goal but at the same time if the items were more affordable people might be more likely to buy multiple items instead of nothing at all.
Second, at almost every concert I've attended, I've seen bootleggers selling band shirts at almost half the cost of the merch in the venue and those sales don't the bands at all. At this point, it might be time for bands to sell merch outside the venue as fake bootleggers just to cut the venue out of the profits.
