Meet Ishaan, Android Lead at LikeMinds
A hack for hiring "fresher with 20 years of experience"
Even though this is a jab meant for unrealistic expectations, we have come to realize that high agency and getting things done attitude matters more than just the number of years on someone's resume and Ishaan here is proof of it.
From joining as a fresher to now growing in the role of engineering manager, he has grown grown so much in the last 3 years. Credit goes to him and his mentor Natesh who has had a similar journey in his early days at the previous startup Curofy, founded by @Nipun Goyal - the cofounder and CEO of LikeMinds. Natesh joined as an intern at Curofy and is now cofounder and CTO at LikeMinds.
This is a playbook we have seen working really well for us where we hire young talent and mentor them. The high agency folks would learn fast and convert tough situations into opportunities for themselves. Mahir being another example of this. He became part of our leadership team last year after completing 3 years with us.
While it's tricky to identify the talent when they don't have experience, high agency people are like this in all walks of life. You'll find them active in school college activities, being part of some volunteer group, having a very specific hobby and a passion to do a lot of good in their chosen task.
So next time, don't reject an application just because they don't fit the bill on paper, especially if you are an early stage startup with limited resources.
