Trump Made Discrimination Legal?
Trump appears to have made it legal to discriminate against people. He did this by revoking the equal employment opportunity order of 1965. This was signed by LBJ, and it prohibited discrimination in employment because of race, creed, color, sex, or national origin. The order also mandated that the government ensure equal opportunity for all. Trump’s order revoking it orders all agencies and departments to terminate all of that. He also removed executive orders around National Security, like one from 2016 which promoted diversity and inclusion in the National Security Workforce - which was signed because as a nation of immigrants, our diversity helps us create really good spies. Trump also got rid of an executive order that made sure the government wasn’t dumping toxic waste in minority or low-income communities, or giving them cancer through reckless experiments. And lastly he ordered the department of labor to stop promoting diversity. In reaction to this, you have a lot of people saying that this sets the US up for failure. With them pointing to studies that find companies with diverse boards and management teams have significantly higher profits than companies without it.
