Deer frequent our land, and while they’re charming creatures, they unfortunately wreak havoc on our vegetation. They’re particularly fond of nibbling on the young shoots of our peach trees and blueberry shrubs. We’ve experimented with various deterrents, including mothballs, soap bark, and store-bought pungent detergents, but to no avail. This led us to enclose our plants. Initially, we opted for chicken wire to protect our blueberry shrubs, but its flimsiness limited us from constructing larger enclosures, thus impeding the growth of the shrubs. Moreover, we observed deer attempting to topple the chicken wire. In the end, we switched to a standard wire fence for the enclosure. This presented a new challenge: stabilizing the enclosure with stakes. Driving the stakes into the ground made it difficult to move the enclosure for bush maintenance. Our solution was to attach handles to the enclosure, crafted from wire and shaped like a semi-circle, allowing us to remove the enclosure with ease.
