GABAPENTIN 300MG, 400MG
MECHANISM OF ACTION:
1. Increased production of GABA, a major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Its main function is to reduce neuronal excitability, promoting calm and relaxation.
2. Decreased GLUTAMATE, acting as the main excitatory neurotransmitter. It is essential for communication between nerve cells, memory, and learning.
INDICATIONS
Partial seizures
Neuropathic pain. Trauma, accidents, or surgeries
Rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus
Diabetes mellitus (10 years after first diagnosis)
Alcoholism, long-term ED
Toxicity (arsenic, ethylene oxide, thallium)
Neuropathic pain symptoms
• Shooting, burning, stabbing pain
• Numbness, paresthesia
• Burning, tingling
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Allergy or hypersensitivity
Dizziness, vertigo
Kidney failure, blood dyscrasias, during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Risk of falls, confusion, loss of consciousness, progressive mental impairment
DRUG AND OTHER INTERACTIONS:
Morphine increases plasma concentrations of Gabapentin
Antacids such as milk of magnesia and Mylanta decrease absorption. (Take every 2 hours.)
ADVERSE REACTIONS
• Drowsiness.
• Tiredness or weakness.
• Dizziness, headache.
• Uncontrollable tremors in a part of your body.
• Double or blurred vision.
• Loss of balance, anxiety.
DOSAGE AND ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION:
Start at a low dose. 300 mg daily, then gradually increase.
