Day 3 - Technical and scientific perspectives for monitoring the Amazon

✅ Andrés Llanos
Geographic Information Systems Analyst with over 5 years of experience working on monitoring deforestation, indigenous reserves, protected areas, pressures, and threats. He has also participated in various projects with indigenous communities in the Colombian Amazon on land issues and social mapping workshops in the departments of Amazonas, Guainía, and Vaupés.
✅ María A. Oliveira-Miranda (Tina)
Coordinator of the Socio-Environmental Monitoring Program in Wataniba. She has worked for over 20 years on conservation-related issues, where land management is fundamental. The use of remote sensing and geographic information systems has been essential for monitoring land cover change processes. She has participated in more than 25 publications and more than 40 conference presentations and has been part of various national and international networks.
✅ Carmen Josse M., PhD
Executive Director of the EcoCiencia Foundation since March 2020. She participates in the development of products for the Amazonian Network of Georeferenced Socio-Environmental Information (#RAISG). She was a regional ecologist for Latin America and the Caribbean at NatureServe from 2001 to 2016 and developed methods and products for classifying, mapping, and assessing ecosystems throughout Latin America to support conservation planning. She collaborates with the Scientific Panel for the Amazon (SPA) to generate an assessment of current trends and recommendations for the sustainable and equitable development of the Amazon. She has experience with georeferenced tools for assessing ecosystem adaptation to climate change, quantitative threat analysis, and monitoring conservation objectives.
