What it's like being a UK university student
People from other countries often wonder what's it like to study in a UK university? In this episode I explain the main differences.
One of these differences is the style of teaching. In a UK university there is often a focus upon you being an independent thinker which means you'll be encouraged to use your critical thinking skills and to sort out often complex and complicated problems, providing robust and logical solutions. This means that teachers will expect you to think for yourself and not rely upon others to give you the answer.
This can be quite a challenge for some students - especially those that come from places which give a different learning experience. I've seen for example, in Asian universities where students are encouraged to treat the teacher as unquestionable and a guru. However in most western universities you will be encouraged to ask questions - especially when you may not fully understand something.
