Universal Pictures (also referred to as Universal Studios or Universal) was formed in 1912 by the German Carl Laemmle, Mark Dintenfass, Charles O. Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, Robert H. Cochrane, and Jules Brulatour. The production studio is based in Universal City, California. Universal is owned by American global telecommunications conglomerate Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBCUniversal. Its the second oldest studio in America (after Paramount) and the world's fifth oldest after Gaumont, Pathé and Nordisk Film. Universal is one of the six major Hollywood studios.
