Ed Moriarty of MIT's Edgerton Center shot this high-speed, slow-motion video of model bridges being tested at the John D. O'Bryant School in Roxbury. The bridges were built entirely of craft sticks and white glue (no more than 80 sticks to a bridge). The testing apparatus consisted of a five-gallon bucket suspended from a metal bar and chain. A few designs supported the weight of the bucket completely filled with water. Small quantities of sand were then added to cause the final collapse. The winning design supported more than 60 pounds!
