The Missing Horcrux (A Harry Potter Theory)
DISCLAIMER:
It has not escaped my attention that this is not the best time to come out of the wood work with a Harry Potter video.
I assure you that I had intended on posting this video today for a long time.
But 2020, it seems, keeps throwing curveballs at us.
For those of you who are unaware, recently the author of the Harry Potter books, J. K. Rowling has made some insensitive comments on social media regarding transgendered people.
Let me make it abundantly clear that I do not share her views. Trans women are women, trans men are men, and anyone who preaches against them falls into the same mentality of the Death Eaters and deserve a sentence in Azkaban as far as I'm concerned.
And yet, I remain a Potterhead because I have seen this fandom rally together against their creator in defense of our trans sisters and brothers. I also believe that the art is greater than the artist and this series of books has inspired a lot of good in this world despite its creator.
As my celebrity heart-throb Dan Rad so eloquently put "If these books taught you that love is the strongest force in the universe, capable of overcoming anything; if they taught you that strength is found in diversity, and that dogmatic ideas of pureness lead to the oppression of vulnerable groups; if you believe that a particular character is trans, nonbinary, or gender fluid, or that they are gay or bisexual; if you found anything in these stories that resonated with you and helped you at any time in your life — then that is between you and the book that you read, and it is sacred. And in my opinion nobody can touch that."
If however, Rowling's actions have hurt you too much and you wish to walk away from the fandom, I fully understand and you have my support.
But for myself, while I turn away from the actions of the author, I shall not as of yet turn my back on the fandom that has meant so much to myself and to many.
