LADA Samara Development documentary film
In 1984 AVTOVAZ launched the LADA Samara. The front wheel driven VAZ 2108 became a milestone in the development of the LADA cars.
AVTOVAZ relied also on the technical experise of Porsche's engineering services. The Weissach engineers were assigned with revising the five-seat LADA Samara in order to achieve a competitive price and the necessary sturdiness for road conditions in the Soviet Union. With the exception of the styling, nearly all assemblies such as the motor, transmission, chassis, body, acoustics and electronics were optimized or redeveloped.
