The Glass puzzle box - 120 steps!
This is The Glass puzzle box. This box takes around 120 steps to open! When I was designing the maze and the mechanism of the sliders for this puzzle box I used a program called burr tools to find the optimal configuration for the sliders. Because of this I only knew the path through the maze that the marble should take when opening the puzzle box. I didn’t know how to find my way through all the sliders. The first time opening this box took me almost two whole hours. In this video you can see me solve this box for the third time, and it still took me 45 minutes to do so.
Because the box is made out of acrylic, you can see everything that’s going on. Because of this you can really think about what is happening and what should be happening. This box is perfect for people who want to understand how a mechanism works.
