When is Christmas?
Christmas is celebrated on December 25, and the day before is called Christmas Eve.
What is Christmas?
It is a day that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.
Who celebrates Christmas?
It is a Christian holiday, but many non-Christians also celebrate this day.
Is Christmas a global holiday?
Christmas is an official national holiday in more than 160 countries. That is around 80% of all the world’s countries.
How do people celebrate Christmas?
Christians will go to church on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve.
Family and friends exchange presents in advance, and people open them up on Christmas morning. Many people like to put presents under the Christmas tree.
Individuals decorate homes, companies decorate offices, and there will also be decorations all around the town. The tree is a big part of Christmas decoration. People put string lights, garlands, baubles, tinsel, and candy canes. At the top of a tree, people put either an angel or a star.
Another way to celebrate is to sing and listen to Christmas Carols.

History of Christmas
Christmas celebrates the day Jesus Christ was born. We aren’t exactly sure what day Jesus was born. However, the Gospel of Luke says that Jesus was born in December. Also, a manuscript from the year 354 mentions December 25.
Christmas became a large event in the United States during the mid-1800s. This was when people started to have family gatherings on December 25. Then, on June 26, 1870, Christmas became a national holiday in the US.
Who is Santa Claus?
It is a legendary figure living at the North Pole and comes down to town during Christmas to give children gifts.
Santa is based on Saint Nicholas, who was a real person. Saint Nicholas was a very kind and rich Bishop. He helped the poor and secretly gave gifts to people who needed them.
Popular Christmas Traditions in the US
1. Watch a Christmas movie.
2. Children leave cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas Eve.
3. Hang stockings on the fireplace.
4. Exchange gifts.
5. Send Christmas cards.
