Presenting the restored intro cinematic from the PlayStation 2 classic, "Godzilla: Save the Earth".
Restoration Journey:
ISO Extraction: Started by digging deep into the game's PS2 ISO, where I identified the bulky VOL file suspected to house the intro itself.
Script-Driven Extraction of the Extracted: Utilized a specific QuickBMS script tailored for Pipeworks games to successfully delve into the VOL file. This enabled the extraction of the original PSS video file hidden within (So now theres no "Press Start Button" garbage).
FFmpeg Conversion: Transitioned to FFmpeg, a powerful multimedia framework, to convert the PSS file into an actually usable MP4 container. Yay command line!
Audio Challenges: Encountered some hurdles with the audio stream (or lack there of, lol). It was a twisty path, but with determination, the audio was rendered clear and vibrant. It's very mcuh only 128kbps though.
AI Upscaling: Moved to the next phase with AI. Thanks to an AI model that likes 3D animation, it went pretty well. In the end, the video was upscaled, revealing details that were once lost in the original SD resolution.
Final Output: What you see now is a nostalgic love for the game, manifested. A once pixelated intro has been rejuvenated into this crisp HD cinematic.
