Darksiders II takes place after the Apocalypse and the destruction of the Third Kingdom (Earth). The Horseman War is imprisoned, awaiting trial by the Charred Council. When the other Horsemen (Death, Fury, and Strife) are informed of War's suspected treason, Death decides to atone for his brother's sins, erase the crime itself—that is, restore the Third Kingdom.
