Debugging time! In this episode, I begin a system to automatically load data about regions and encounters from external files... and then am harshly reminded that Game Maker Studio is "sandboxed", meaning it greatly restricts access to external files. I spend half the episode re-learning how to handle file access in GM:S's sandbox. Then I finally finish coding the data loading system and get it working and ready for real use -- because a real programmer doesn't give up until the job is done! Wait, what?
If you like to see programmers solve problems and get confused and solve confusing problems (a.k.a. "that debug life"), this episode is for you! If not, maybe skip this one, but you'll miss out on some cool data-driven design! :D

In this series, I'll be developing my Pokemon fan game, Pokemon Gemini, from scratch. It'll have completely original characters, creatures, settings, stories... basically an entirely new game inspired by the franchise we all know and love :) Come on this journey with me and watch as a new region and a new era of Pokemon come into existence.
