High Voltage coil build CFL & LED circuit
This is what I do to prevent high voltage arc destruction of the coil. I've had two coils short out, but none since I started building them like this.

ALSO: If you use nail-polish to coat the coils, make sure you check the bottle of polish with a N-42 magnet to make sure it does not contain metal particles "sparkles" in the polish as this "could" cause the high voltage coil to short out easier.
