On 31 July 1971, Apollo 15 Commander David Scott (Colonel, USAF) became the first person to drive a car on the moon. Built specifically for NASA's Apollo space program, the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) expanded the crews’ exploratory range and contributed greatly to the success of the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 missions.
