TWO GRAYS to paint a PORTRAIT? 🎨
In this small grayscale portrait study, we’ll focus on tonal value (the darkness or lightness of each area), which is the KEY to painting 3D form. In PART 1 here on YouTube, we’ll block in the basic shapes following a simplified reference of only TWO values, which I’ll show you how to mix in oil paints.
In PART 2 (available on Patreon: / 85799057 ), we’ll start layering additional values on top to create a full tonal range, using a color-coded “heatmap” reference to make identifying values easier. Portrait study after William Bouguereau.
