"Do you know that feeling when the people around you seem strange? And the more you think about it, the clearer it becomes that you, not them, are the problem?" Niko is in his late twenties and dropped out of university some time ago. Since then, he's been living from day to day, drifting sleeplessly through the streets of his city, marveling at the people around him. Niko is a flâneur and a listener, to whom people share their stories. With quiet curiosity, he observes them as they navigate daily life. Until this turbulent day: His girlfriend breaks up with him, his father cuts him off financially, and a psychologist diagnoses him with "emotional instability." A striking beauty named Julika confronts him with the wounds of their shared past, his new neighbor pours his heart out to him over schnapps and meatballs, and it seems there's no "normal" coffee to be found anywhere in the city. After this day, should Niko really leave his comfort zone and change his life? Will he end up with Julika? And even that longed-for cup of coffee?
