Taierzhuang Ancient City is located in Taierzhuang District, Zaozhuang City, Shandong Province, at the center of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The ancient city began in the Qin and Han dynasties, developed in the Tang and Song dynasties, and prospered in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The ancient city covers an area of 2 square kilometers, has 11 functional areas, 8 scenic spots and 29 scenic spots. It is the largest ancient city in China and a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.
Taierzhuang’s history and culture are very profound. The Qing Dynasty’s "Yi County Chronicles" records: "Tai (er) Zhuang crosses the canal and became the north-south trajectory. It was gathered by business travellers, and the residents spared it. (Emperor Qianlong) bestowed it as the'No. 1 Village in the World'. It prospered during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

In the pre-Qin period, the region belonged to the Xu and Biyang countries, and it was a place of dispute between the powers of Wu, Yue, Lu, Song, Qi, and Chu. Archaeology confirmed that the ancient city of Biyang, more than two thousand years ago, was an ancient water city. In 2006, it was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. During the Qin, Han, Wei and Jin Dynasties, the north and south of the canal belonged to Fuyang and Lanling counties. Yongjia Nandu, Fuyang County merged into Lu County, and later changed its name to Shouzhang County. After the Eastern Wei Dynasty, Fu Yang's hometown was changed to Chengxian County. Since the Sui Dynasty, Cheng County merged with Lanling County, which was later called Lanling County, Yizhou, and Yi County.
In the Tang Dynasty, the Tai clan established a village here, called Taijiazhuang. Located outside the North Gate, Zhunti Pavilion, built in the middle and late Tang Dynasty, is the oldest building in Taierzhuang.
During the Northern Song Dynasty, Di Qing, Su Shi and others successively presided over the large-scale development of the Liguo Iron Mine in Xuzhou (called Pengcheng in ancient times). Xinhe, Zhongxin Ditch.
During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal used the Penghe River to pass through Taierzhuang when it diverted from the Yellow River to avoid the Yellow River.
In the Yuan Dynasty, the soil polder was first built, and the Sanhuang Temple, Xuandi Temple and other buildings were built in the city, and gradually formed a market town called "Taijiazhuangji".
At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Taijiazhuang had a total of 2,000 residents, and the name "Taierzhuang" was first seen in the canal defense monument on Yangzhou Road in Huanglinzhuang southeast of Taierzhuang in the twelfth year of Chongzhen (1639).
Due to the influence of the diversion of the Yellow River, during the Yuan and Ming dynasties, the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal once used the section of the Yellow River from Xuzhou to Huai'an. However, the Yellow River is often flooded, which often hinders water transportation, so there is the so-called "opening of the river beyond the Luokou River" proposal to open the river. In the fourth year of Longqing (1570), Weng Dali first advocated the opening of the moon. In the twenty-eighth year of Wanli (1600), it was officially commissioned. The following year, the trial operation was opened under the auspices of Liu Dongxing. After the 38th year of Wanli (1610), the Yehe River completely replaced the Yellow River transportation route and became the country's economic lifeline and golden waterway.
