“Tomorrow”

On the brink of tomorrow
The time that you borrowed
Has now come to collect
What have you to show?
You weren’t looking for trouble
But life isn’t subtle
So what did you expect?
Time to make the most
Of this again

They say don’t put your eggs
In one basket alone
But you went there anyways
Now your life erodes
Where the roads intersected
You carelessly dozed at the wheel
Now you must pay
For the path you chose

If you had the chance to start again
Would it matter or would you reinvent
What your ego destroyed
Knowing that it’s your choice
To live or just throw it all
Out the window again

Then you wake up and see
That this all was a dream
But the lessons felt so real
And you’re not alone
Tomorrow’s another day
Full of adventure
And opportunities
To rewrite this script that you know

Now you have a chance to start again
And it matters, so you should reinvent
What your ego destroys
When you don’t make that choice
To live over throwing it all
Out the window (repeat)

Notes:

After writing lyrics to this song, I took a step back and realized it sorta tied the whole album together theme-wise, so I made it the title track. The song is about investing your life and time wisely so tomorrow can be a better day, regardless of how tough current circumstances might be. It starts from a 3rd person perspective looking at someone who wakes from a nightmare in which they had reached the end of their life and realized they had wasted it. The rest of the song is from the same 3rd person’s perspective, but challenging that individual to take the dream as a warning and live a more invested life. Definitely some Box Car Racer influence on this one.
