The turks head should look like a continuous loop of criss cross cords when finished. when you tuck in the ends and hide them it will look like a continuous plait.
There are many types of turks head out there. a good knot book will detail most of them, some are solely written for turks head. Note that sometimes the lead ("leed") can be called part.
My main purpose to use this knot is for decoration as its very useful to cover handles. There are many other uses on board ships.
