I wrote CRY in pretty much one go. After finishing up the track I felt empty and sad and at the same time I was glad to get this off my chest.
I'm offering you a first hand account from my experiences as the grandchild of a Cameroonian independence activist.
Zooming in on something that had been slumbering in my life, something I couldn't grasp as this story relates to many things such as the complex interplay between intergenerational trauma and toxic masculinity, (de-)colonisation and more.
As usual this track is infused with some of my prefered jazzy piano voicings and a stepper beat that could give it a little dub vibe.
CRY is the second single of Kunde's upcoming LP 'Dandelion' which is scheduled to release on W.E.R.F. Records February 9, 2024.

LYRICS:
Chorus
Keepin it downlow I
gotta get mine uhuh
nobody mind dat my
tribe is the one that gooot
robbed robbed robbed robbed
(2x)
Verse 1
I - I - Aaah
Saw the tears in the eyes
of my dad when he cried
LIES
I’v seen this history with my eyes
I was surprised
didn’t see that coming
not even for a fraction of a mile
WHY?
Cause I remember
when I was a child of about seven
my dad was dating this shady lady
that stayed in while I was waiting
for my momma to pick me up
she told me your mother
probably ain’t coming no more
so stop waiting by the door
(you sure?)
I started to panic
felt abandoned like lil bambi
felt a pressure in my eye
and I couldn’t help but cry
when my dad came in the room
he said “son what are you doing?
Crying is for ladies and babies you fuckin’ punkt,
you mom’s at the door so you better get your trunk”
Chorus
Keepin it downlow I
gotta get mine uhuh
nobody mind dat my
tribe is the one that gooot
robbed robbed robbed robbed
(2x)
Verse 2
Yo, lemme track back
to the fact that
triggered this flashback
see we were in a museum
reviewing the history of
the decolonization
of the Cameroonian nation
stationed in Yaoundé
followed by guides
keepin there eyes
stick to the script
that was supplied
by the world bank and the IMF
see these people
getting stressed
when too many questions
were being asked
laughin it off
and redirecting
us to the next piece of the collection
pictures of independence day they were presented
to the surprise of our guides
all these things went awry
How
Can you lie like this?!
My father did replied
I witnessed all this shit with my own two eyes
I’m the one that survived our hidden genocide (2x)
Shhh
Chorus
Keepin it downlow I
gotta get mine uhuh
nobody mind dat my
tribe is the one that gooot
robbed robbed robbed robbed
(2x)
Verse 3
As I’m standing petrified
by my old man that was crying
people rushing to his side
even all of them guides
had their minds upside down
shit done flipped the whole vibe
my mind went all over the place
and tears start to race
BUT
I couldn’t cry cause my mind got fried
I froze
I blocked
My tear ducts stuck
didn’t know how to behave
and my mind felt strange
cause as a kid I learned to be ashamed of my pain
brothers cumulated and they go insane
with the trauma
inherited
on to the next
when will the time come that our minds rest?
Chorus
Keepin it downlow I
gotta get mine uhuh
nobody mind dat my
tribe is the one that gooot
robbed robbed robbed robbed
(2x)
