L’illustrateur Vincent Patar nous raconte la naissance de ce dessin animé, qui résonne étrangement avec l’actualité…
« La première fois que j’entends parler de Fabrizio Cassol, c’est en 1984. Je suis étudiant en art à Liège et j’ai un cousin qui organisait un concert et il m’a demandé une affiche. J’ai donc fait les portraits des musiciens, dont celui de Fabrizio, avant même de le connaître !
« Babyroussa» est mon film de fin d’études. Un dessin animé de cinq minutes, dessins au crayon sur papier, en noir et blanc.
Nous sommes en 1990, TRIO BRAVO sort son quatrième album. Je vais les voir en concert et ils jouent LE morceau que je voulais pour mon film : « Quatrième Monde ». Je suis certain que c’est ça qu’il me faut. Je me suis donc permis de découper et de monter cette musique sur mes images…
En 1991, une fois sorti de l’école, comme je ne suis pas totalement satisfait du résultat final de ce film, je décide de tout retourner en 35 mm. Après la Cambre, avec Stéphane Aubier et Benoit Marcandella, nous créons notre propre structure de production : Pic Pic André Production ASBL qui nous permet de déposer des dossiers à la commission. Nous obtenons une aide pour la finition de Babyroussa.
Entre-temps, Trio Bravo n’existe plus mais Aka Moon est né. Je prends contact avec Fabrizio, je lui explique l’histoire du film. Il ne veut pas entendre le vieux montage. On fixe un jour d’enregistrement et avec Michel et Stéphane, ils jouent directement sur les dessins qui défilent…
Magique !!!! Incroyable ! Et voilà, la nouvelle version de Babyroussa the Babiroussa ! »

Vincent Patar: "The first time I heard about Fabrizio Cassol was in 1984. I was an art student in Liège and I had a cousin who was organising a concert, and he asked me for a poster. So I made the portraits of the musicians, including Fabrizio, before I even knew him!
'Babyroussa' is my graduation film. A five-minute cartoon, pencil drawings on paper, in black and white.
It is 1990 and TRIO BRAVO releases its fourth album. I go to see them in concert and they play THE song I wanted for my film "Fourth World". I'm sure that's what I need. So I took the liberty of cutting and editing this music to my images...
In 1991, once I left school, as I was not totally satisfied with the final result of this film, I decided to go back to 35 mm. After the Cambre, with Stéphane Aubier and Benoit Marcandella, we create our own production structure: Pic Pic André Production ASBL which allows us to submit files to the commission. We obtain a help for the completion of Babyroussa.
In the meantime, Trio Bravo no longer exists but Aka Moon is born ! I get in touch with Fabrizio, I explain him the story of the film. He doesn't want to hear the old cut. We set a day of recording with Michel and Stéphane, they play directly on the drawings that scroll... That was magic!
