Tutorial on a small autoclave for steam sterilization at 120°C
A description of the use of a simple electrically heated autoclave. This instrument is useful in mycology and microbiology for sterilizing culture media, agar, broths, substrates, and instruments. Steam produced by the electric resistance allows temperatures of up to 120°C to be reached, suitable for inactivating all microbial forms, including bacterial endospores. To use this autoclave, you must have a 4kW TRIAC dimmer, connected in series to the power supply, so you can adjust the heating level of the resistance that generates the steam. The instrument should only be used with demineralized or distilled water, and the manufacturer's instructions must be followed.
