Windows 8 must support custom themes http://winempyrean.net/how-to-install...
Instructions:
Backup your system and create a restore point before proceeding.
Take ownership of shell32.dll file, change its permissions and rename it as shell32.old.dll
Path - C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll
Edit shell32.dll with Resource Hacker and replace images 633 and 635 and save the file. Other resources like Icons can also be modified, follow the same procedure.
Copy the modified shell32.dll file into System32 folder.
Reboot for the changes to take effect.
Repeat the same procedure for any other system files you want to modify.
Note:
There is no need to disable UAC. It doesn't interfere with the process. But if you disable UAC, you won't get warning messages.
The procedure is same for 32bit (x86) and 64bit (x64) systems.
In 64bit (x64) systems, you should replace shell32.dll and other system files only in "System32" folder, there is no need to replace files in "SysWOW64" folder.
Warning:
Changing system file permissions compromises the system security and exposes to security risks.
