An extended sentence is one that contains a modifier (wavy line), an adverbial modifier (dot-dash), and an object (dashed line). If you have at least one word, which you underline, for example, with a wavy line, then your sentence is immediately extended.
An unextended sentence is one that contains nothing but a grammatical base.
