DRIFT: Moments of Connection at MK&G
On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the internationally renowned artist duo DRIFT staged their most extensive presentation in Germany to date at MK&G. From January 7th to May 8th, 2022, DRIFT will transform the MK&G into a sensual experience space on 350 square meters with three spectacular kinetic sculptures.
Luminous dandelion seeds, magnificent silk blossoms that gracefully unfold and retreat, and a spatial installation that mimics the behavior of animals in flight allow visitors to experience the deep connection between humans and nature. Parallel to the exhibition, DRIFT was commissioned by the Elbphilharmonie in close coordination with MK&G to develop a performative work of art: "Breaking Waves" will be premiered on April 28, 2022 and shown on three other evenings.
The installation allows the exterior of the concert hall to shine in a new light and in doing so refers to its surroundings and its interior: the music. Founded in 2007 by Lonneke Gordijn (1980) and Ralph Nauta (1978), DRIFT uses technology to visualize phenomena and hidden properties of nature in order to learn from them and restore our relationship with nature.
