Hey everybody! In today's lesson, I'm going to show you how to play a simple strumming version of "Otherside" by Red Hot Chili Peppers. This one's actually pretty simple as it uses some basic chord shapes and the most common strumming pattern ever.

The lesson begins with the chorus, which uses: Am, F, G, and C. We practice switching between each of the shapes and work on some simple strategies like leaving certain fingers down in order to make the switching easy and clean. Then, we practice it using downstrokes only, just to make sure that we are playing each chord the right amount of time.

Next we take a look at the strumming pattern, which is the most common one ever! I go over it in this video here as well:    • This Strumming Pattern Works on Almost ANY...

We break it down, make sure that we can feel all the beats and line it all up and then we put it together with our chord progression and play through the entire chorus.

The verse uses just three chords: Am, Em, G. We practice the chords by themselves, working our way through the switches and then we add the strumming pattern.

Finally we do all of that for the bridge, which is just Em and C.

Section by section, this tune is very simple so we work on it in that way and then we put the whole thing together with the strumming... and that's it!

Enjoy the lesson and I'll see you soon!
