I was walking down a lonely hillside
Wadin' through the summer grass
I left my breath behind my back
I was goin' nowhere fast
I chanced to meet a skinny kid
Searchin for some time to pass
I stopped, my breath hung all around me
I spoke, my words they greeted him.
The kid was lean, his face almost mean
He had a frown from his chin to his crown.
He said, "Life is drivin' me crazy".
I sat down and studied his fallen teardrops
I knew no words to comfort him
I looked away to sleeping mountains
And understood that time stands still
I kept my wisdom in my head
And watched the sun turn red.
My God, the weepin' boy lamented
Oh why hast thou forsaken me.
You know it's true life can be cruel
but don't you know it's not always so
Because life was driving me crazy...
