New VFX Training - The Results Are In! (3ds max fx tutorials)
OK I'll make this quick
Earlier this week I asked you if you had any cool visual effects ideas.
I had thousands submitted.
I rounded it down to TEN ideas.
The last 24 hours a lot of us voted.
And now we know what the subject is going to be!
But, it is Friday. I'm sure you are probably out having beers, and having fun this afternoon.
Not me. I now gotta make this stuff.
As I made the commitment to you. I am now going to be working on creating the training for the subject we voted for. It's going to be brutal. There's a lot to do. The goal, is to have the first videos finished, uploaded and sent out to you by Tuesday morning.
So that means Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday I'm going to be sitting at this keyboard frantic and delerious building the best possible FX training I can to unveil to you Tuesday morning.
But, to keep my sanity I'm going to send a few updates along the way. You can see it's progress and I'll share some insights, answer questions and do what I can to keep you in the loop as this comes together.

The winning subject was the 'Plasma Energy Ball' effect. A big explosion of electricity and light, something cool and sci-fi. I have gotten so many requests over the years to do something like this, so I think this will be fun. The other two were the Avengers Infinity War 'Ash/Dust' effect. As well as Venom's Simbiote Suit.
If time permits, I would LOVE to try to do one of these in addition.
We'll see..
I want this to be something that I will build with 3ds max, but is completely easy to follow in Houdini, Maya, C4D or other 3D Software. The approach I'll take through from start to finish showing the entire visual effects production process as well as compositing, either in After Effects or Nuke. I just went and bought Video Copilot Optical Flares, so I can do some shiny lens flares for added effect :)
Hopefully this matches other 'Allan McKay Tutorials' in terms of the quality and focus, but I'm definitely going to work hard to make this the highest quality training I can within the time I have.
Less typing, more worky worky. I got a big weekend ahead of me. Better stock up on that coffee right now!
