Ramadan or “Sidna Ramadan” as Moroccans say. It is a ritual and a sacred pillar of Islam, but more than that it is a special occasion in Morocco. Everyone agrees that the pillar that follows the testimonies (shahada) in Islam is prayer, but studies conducted on fasting in Morocco confirm that 40 percent of Moroccans consider that a person who does not fast is worse than the one who does not pray. It is even difficult for doctors to convince their patients in some cases not to fast. Moroccans insist not to miss fasting all the days of their life.
In this episode, we will try to see the reason behind the strong commitment of Moroccans to Ramadan. Are there roots in the past for this aura and holiness with which Moroccans deal with the month of Ramadan?
