🇵🇸 History of Palestine: A Story of Struggle, Identity, and Hope
Palestine is one of the oldest regions in the world, with roots going back thousands of years. It has seen many civilizations — from the Canaanites and Israelites to Romans, Byzantines, and Muslims. In 638 CE, Muslim rule began, and Jerusalem became the third holiest city in Islam. Under the Ottomans (1517–1917), Christians, Jews, and Muslims lived in relative harmony.

After WWI, Britain took control and issued the Balfour Declaration (1917), promising a Jewish homeland in Palestine — even though the majority of the population were Palestinian Arabs. Tensions rose as Jewish immigration increased, especially after the Holocaust.

In 1947, the UN proposed splitting the land into two states, but Palestinians rejected the plan, which gave most of the land to the Jewish minority. In 1948, Israel was declared. This led to the Nakba (catastrophe) — over 750,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled from their homes, and hundreds of villages were destroyed. Israel took 78% of historic Palestine.

In the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel occupied East Jerusalem, Gaza, and the West Bank — areas meant for a future Palestinian state. These areas are still under occupation. Illegal Israeli settlements continue to expand, displacing more Palestinians.

In Gaza, over 2 million people live under a harsh blockade by Israel and Egypt since 2007. Gaza has suffered repeated wars — in 2008, 2012, 2014, 2021, and most recently in 2023–2024, which killed tens of thousands, mostly civilians. Gaza's infrastructure — schools, hospitals, homes — has been destroyed. People lack water, electricity, and medical care.

The West Bank is divided by checkpoints, walls, and settlements. Children are arrested. Homes are demolished. Movement is restricted. Meanwhile, Palestinians continue to fight for freedom through peaceful resistance, education, art, and global awareness.

This is not just a conflict — it’s about colonization, human rights, and dignity. The struggle of Palestinians is a cry for justice and freedom, not hate. They are not terrorists — they are students, teachers, doctors, artists, and dreamers.
