Torysh - an unsolved mystery. Valley of Balls in Mangistau, Kazakhstan
The Valley of Balls is the most mysterious landmark of the Mangistau region, which puzzles scientists from all over the world. Until now, no one has been able to understand how stones of a clear round shape appeared in the middle of the endless steppe. Disputes on this matter have been going on for 250 years. However, thinkers have not yet come to a common opinion. There are several versions of the origin of the Valley of Balls. One of the assumptions is that the balls appeared as a result of electrical discharges in the earth's crust, which occurred in the zones of active tectonic faults. Rotating in the fault, the rocks formed into spherical concretions. The ball was formed according to the principle of a snowball: a small grain was covered with a thick layer of sand and clay. These processes took place at a time when there were still reservoirs in the place of the modern valley. Therefore, the core of the ball consists of the remains of small organisms that lived in the sea. Imprints of insects, shells and fish are clearly visible even now. However, this is just a version, not scientifically confirmed. Local residents, for example, assume that this phenomenon is the work of alien beings. Similar boulders were found in Latin America at the beginning of the last century. The Valley of Balls Torysh is a favorite place for Mangistau residents and attracts curious tourists from all over the world. Huge boulders of a regular round shape resemble dinosaur eggs. They have been in the steppes for thousands of years under the hot sun of Mangistau. An interesting fact is that the balls, when interacting with the winds of Mangistau, “reproduce” magical sounds similar to the howling of wild animals.
