🥃 Cask Strength Culture
📦 Worldwide shipping Today I review the Slyrs, 'schleers', Amontillado cask finish single malt from Germany. Slyrs distillery's been founded in upper Bavaria after a bet.
When backpacking through Scottish Highlands, Florian Stetter realised how similar the environment is to his homeland of Bavaria and bet his friend that Germany could produce similar quality single malts given the same nature. Let's see if he won the bet!
Using high quality German barley and springwater, Slyrs double distill their malted barley and always mature their new make in white American oak. This expression matures in new American white oak barrels for 2.5 years before being transferred to casks which held Amontillado sherry for 40 years to mature and finish a further 4 years.
Let's find out this German whisky is similar to it's Scottish cousins and will the longer 'finishing' period effect the base spirit in a good way. Happy watching!
