Fingerstyle Guitar Instrumental: “Journey to Momas”
Momas is a bucolic little village in southwest France. A Mormon missionary companion and I and I set out to find it, but the only directions we go was that it was about 25 km out of the town of Pau. We set out on bicycles over a series of weekends trying to find it. We went out north, south, east, west with no luck.
Finally, we set out with determination on August 15th. About 20 km from town, I had a flat tire. That date, in France, is the Feast of Assumption, Catholic holiday. Every store, restaurant, etc. was closed. It was a long, hot trip home.
After walking for hours, dying of thirst, the only place that we found open was a bar. It would have been comedic, like an old joke—“Two Mormon missionaries walked into a bar and….” We passed it up even though we were hot and parched. When we finally made it home we each drank liters of water and took turns soaking our blistered feet in cold water.
That companion and I are still friends today. Here’s to you, Russ!
