📜 What is Killer Instinct 2?
KI2 is the ambitious 1996 sequel to Rare’s iconic arcade hit. Originally planned for SNES, it was instead released in arcades and later ported to Killer Instinct Gold for the Nintendo 64 launch. Featuring a new combo system, parries, pressures, command grabs, and a bunch of finishers like Ultimates and No Mercies, KI2 brought deeper gameplay — but also dropped fan-favorite characters like Cinder, Thunder, and Riptor. Its mixed reception came not from quality, but timing and misunderstanding. It remains one of the most technical and creative 2D fighters of its era.
