Baumhart, Coen, Fischer, Kishman, Wakefield. Most of these names are still very familiar to most Vermilionites. These folks and their families were among those that helped advance our city from a scrawny, sleepy Ohio village into one of the most pleasant and vibrant towns on the southern shore of Lake Erie.
On February 21, 2024, Rich Tarrant, curator of the Vermilion History Museum, continued his talk about the individual and collective roles of these personalities in shaping "Vermillion" into the Vermilion we know and love. The program was held at the Ritter Public Library and sponsored by the Vermilion Historical Society, formerly the Vermilion Area Archival Society.
