#DearDavid tells the story of Laras (Shenina Cinnamon), a high school student who is passionately in love with a boy at her school named David (Emir Mahira). But Laras is shy and chooses to express her burgeoning feelings through sensual fiction, akin to those Gen-Z Enny Arrow stencil books. Problems arise when Laras's writing leaks and spreads throughout her school.
Another Indonesian teen drama that dares to tackle sensitive issues in a more pop-friendly way. It's not as direct as Like & Share, but the film's goal is more or less the same: portraying the reality of teenage life when sexual harassment isn't just a one-sided affair. Not only that, but important issues like privacy violations and bullying remain the film's main focus.
Similar to Like & Share, on the one hand, the issues raised are sometimes overblown and perhaps seem to be passing by. But at least the progress of Laras' character and those affected by her are conveyed at the end without diminishing the dangers of sexual harassment and privacy violations.
