The inhabitants of the lands beyond the invisible border dividing the steppe in half did not respect human laws. They did not keep oaths.

However, the Kitovras, the human-horses who herded herds in the southern part of the steppe and therefore gravitated toward humans and traditionally allied with them, could be relied upon, albeit with some degree of certainty. Although the Kitovras called themselves stallions and mares, they responded to human names, bowed formally when meeting at fairs, and shook hands with acquaintances from border villages.

The grim, warlike Taurians, who drove their herds further north, made no secret of their hostility. At the markets, the bull-men kept aloof and guarded, their hands never leaving the hilts of the swords tucked into their belts.

And from the dog-headed people who inhabited the northern forests, only trouble could be expected. They hated humans, although, like everyone else, they desperately needed them. They oversold the Taurians' goods, resulting in shortages, so border villages were often subject to nightly raids by thieves. Captured wolf-men were executed on the spot, mercilessly and cruelly, but this did not deter their kin. The dog-headed people despised death, and, like all demi-humans, they valued procreation above all else. Scary Stories "Vatazhnik", Mysticism, Horror
