This is the Pharaohs Jig patch from the Korg Wavestation which has been effected and manipulated a bit. The other instruments are my fast playing of various synth leads and other sounds. All sounds meant to work harmoniously with the initial PJ patch which inspired the idea. One could do an entire opus around this patch because it encapsulates so many things and genre. This sound was like a ninja in the 90s always being used for this and that. I didn't find the actual sound until around 2022.
This is an example of a "groove shadow" as the production steering the entire piece. Nice. Any Groove Shadow could be used in this way, this just happens to be a really nice fit with just the right amount of complexity to work for many ideas. Groove Shadows were intended to be the next generation of rhythm. Where the sounds used would take on a spectral quality, meaning that they were not generally obvious common sounds. Because of the cellphones high popularity for listening to music, this also gives groove shadows another life because their sounds can be more pronounced on the tiny speakers, where drums lose a lot of their significance. The other point of the groove shadow is the blending of the rhythm and the melody so those aspects could also be blurred and lead to new ideas not possible on traditional tempo or thematic grids.
Little micro grooves were popular starting in the 80s because of the advances in sample performing technologies. These are a little different than those because they are not intended to be traditional. The groove shadows are unique encapsulations, a sort of condensed motif that has an exponential quality for creative idea spawning and mutating.
