My NEW Favourite Mario Fangame! Super Mario and the Rainbow Stars is a project that aims to bring the unique traits of the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series into a fun 2D platformer. It uses the Super Mario Bros. X2 engine with a bunch of custom code shenanigans. From what I've played so far, I think this might be the best 2D Mario game.
